What the audit covers

Seven areas, checked the way your visitors and Google see them

The audit is for business owners who suspect the website is underperforming but don't know where to start. It works on any platform: WordPress, Wix, Shopify or custom code.
  • Speed and Core Web Vitals

    • Mobile and desktop speed, tested on a mid-range phone profile
    • Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and layout shift
    • Heavy images, fonts, plugins and third-party scripts
  • SEO

    • Titles, descriptions and headings on key pages
    • Indexing, sitemap, robots.txt and broken links
    • Structured data and how your business shows in search results
  • Broken features and forms

    • Contact and booking forms tested end to end
    • WhatsApp, call and map links
    • Error pages, redirects and dead buttons
  • Mobile experience

    • Layout on small Android phones and iPhones
    • Tap targets, text size and menus
    • Whether key information is visible without hunting for it
  • Security headers

    • HTTPS, HSTS and mixed content
    • Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options and related headers
    • Outdated platform versions and plugins visible from outside
  • Compliance hygiene

    • Privacy policy and cookie consent, in line with the DPDP Act 2023
    • Analytics and tracking that load before consent
    • Disclosure pages where your sector expects them, such as SEBI-registered advisers
  • Competitor comparison

    • Two or three competitors you name, or that rank above you
    • Speed, clarity of information and how easy it is to enquire
    • What they do well that you could adopt
  • Not a sales pitch

If your site is in good shape, the report will say so. You are free to fix the issues yourself, with your current developer, or with me.

What you receive

A report you can act on, not a 60-page printout

The report starts with a one-page summary in plain language: what is working, what is costing you enquiries, and the three things to fix first. If you only read one page, read that one.

After the summary, each finding is listed with its severity, the area it affects, what I found, how to fix it and roughly how long the fix takes. Speed scores are recorded with the date and device they were tested on, so you can measure the improvement later.

The fix list is written so you can hand it straight to whoever maintains your site. Nothing is hidden behind jargon.

What a report looks like

An anonymised excerpt to show the format. The findings below are typical issues, not results from a particular client's website.

Sample report (anonymised)

Website audit: summary of findings

  • High3
  • Medium4
  • Low2
  1. HighSpeed1–2 hours

Hero image is 2.4 MB and served as an uncompressed JPEG, even on phones.

Fix: Resize to the size it is shown at, convert to WebP or AVIF, and lazy-load images below the fold.

  2. HighFormsHalf a day

Contact form shows a thank-you message, but test enquiries never reached the inbox.

Fix: Send form emails through a proper email service with SPF and DKIM set up. Add a monthly test enquiry to the checklist.

  3. HighComplianceHalf a day, plus your review

No privacy policy, although the form collects name, phone number and email.

Fix: Publish a privacy policy that matches what you actually collect and link it beside the form. Review it with your adviser against the DPDP Act 2023.

  4. MediumSEO2–3 hours

Most pages share the same title and meta description as the home page.

Fix: Write a unique title and description for each page, based on what people search for.

  5. MediumSpeed1 day

Page builder and plugins load scripts and fonts on every page, including ones the page does not use.

Fix: Remove unused plugins, host fonts locally and defer scripts that are not needed for the first view.

  6. MediumMobile1 hour

Phone number is plain text, so it cannot be tapped to call. Menu button is too small to tap easily.

Fix: Use tap-to-call links and make buttons at least 44 px tall.

  7. MediumSecurity1–2 hours

Basic security headers are missing (Content-Security-Policy, HSTS, X-Content-Type-Options).

Fix: Add the headers at the hosting or CDN level, then check that forms and analytics still work.

  8. LowCompliance2–3 hours

Analytics loads before the visitor has made a cookie choice.

Fix: Load analytics only after consent and add a short, clear cookie notice.

  9. LowCompetitors2 hours

Two nearby competitors show timings and fees as text on the page. This site keeps them inside a PDF.

Fix: Move key information onto the page as text so it loads fast and can be found in search.

Illustrative of the report format. These are typical issues found on small business websites, not measurements from a specific client. A real report also includes screenshots, mobile and desktop speed scores with the date tested, and notes for each page.

FAQ

Questions about the audit

Do you need my website login for the audit?

No, most of the audit works from the outside, the same way Google and your visitors see the site. Read-only access to Google Search Console or Analytics helps if you have it, but it is optional.

Will the audit change anything on my website?

No. The audit only looks and tests. Nothing on your live site is changed. Where I test a contact form, I tell you first so you know a test enquiry is coming.

Is the compliance check legal advice?

No. I check basic hygiene, such as whether you have a privacy policy, a cookie notice and the disclosure pages your sector usually expects. I point out gaps, but for legal wording you should speak to your lawyer or compliance adviser.

Can you fix the issues you find?

Yes, if you want me to. Each finding comes with an effort estimate, so you can give the list to your current developer, fix the simple items yourself, or ask me for a quote. There is no obligation either way.

My site is on WordPress, Wix or Shopify. Can you still audit it?

Yes. The audit covers what visitors and search engines experience, which applies to any platform. The fix list is written for your platform, so the suggestions are practical for it.

Want to know where your website stands?

Send me your website address and what it should be doing for your business. I'll confirm the scope, price and delivery date before starting.

I reply within one working day.
